2014-15 saw Kala Varso getting recognised at National Level for its unique concept and driving the revival of Kutch Folk Music ahead and getting an opportunity to perform at many prestigious events. But this also presented a new and an interesting challenge to take the journey forward and more importantly the coming together of Folk musicians of Kutch to the front to take the mantle in their hands to drive their own progress and development onward.
This lead to the establishment of Riyaj Shala – Folk Music school – a dedicated platform for the Folk Musicians to come together to train and learn, practice and carry forward their traditional Folk Music Heritage.
The Reyaz Shala project was formulated in 2015 to help not only revive the Folk Music Traditions of Kutch, but also bring in a focused and qualitative development in the areas of Folk Music of Kutch that is both economically sustainable, and generates enthusiasm among the young generation of Folk Musicians to take up their craft, and evoke a special interest in the global audience for the Kutch Folk Music and Culture.
Riyaj Shala project helped to create an identity for the Folk Musicians and Folk music of Kutch as a mark of excellence. It has become an institute where folk musicians train every month to practice their skill under professional guidance.
